She had a different moral code, but she had one. She never wanted her power to come from a man, and killing a man who tried to make her and others small was IMO not even something that made her “evil” (flawed, sure) and her cruelty to Annabel Lee was maybe the worst thing she did personally. She wanted to live forever through her ideas. She never wanted a bloodline, it’s a patriarchal idea. She loved Roderick, but she hated the patriarchy, and his kids evoked that in her even when she loved/cared for her family (this was where she seems cold and maybe was too, not sure how she truly felt actually about anyone but Roddy). She had the talent and the work ethic and the prescience to push the right ideas, and she was just pissed off at how women have to navigate the world on top of the same indignity and trauma Roderick dealt with. She just wanted recognition, to be allowed to thrive. The brick shows her motivation wasn’t purely greed anyway, and honestly decadence and greed are secondary throughout to her or tertiary even. Madeline tried to get ahead the right way (before she quits her initial job due to sexism) and wasn’t willing to get ahead on her back as people kept insisting, so she snapped. I could see her getting suckered in by Rod and not realising until far too late. Juno is different again, because she was extremely vulnerable when she first met Rod, a junkie after a serious accident. ![]() There didn't seem to be much interaction between her and Madeline, not enough to see how she changed Rod anyway, before the parts we see in flashback. Not sure on Tammy, though, I really don't see what attracted Bill beyond wealth.Īnnabelle Lee is different, because Rod wasn't a bad guy back then, he was a poet. Leo I don't think was as bad as the others, a selfish druggie, sure, but not overall too bad compared to his siblings, and it's possible his partner was just like him at first. Vic probably came off as wanting to save lives more than anything. Plus, Freddie wasn't too bad initially, more of a people pleasing dork than anything, he gets worse as the show progresses. ![]() We get all of them as the viewers, but in-universe they're likely really good at putting on a good show, long enough to attract good partners.
